Gigi Hadid Arrested in Cayman Islands for Marijuana Possession

Authorities have reported that model Gigi Hadid was arrested in the Cayman Islands last week on charges of marijuana possession.

Hadid, identified by authorities as Jelena Noura Hadid, and her friend, influencer Leah Nicole McCarthy, were arrested on July 10 for the offenses of importing marijuana and related items, according to the Cayman Islands Customs and Border Control agency.

The border authorities of the islands stated, “The couple, who arrived in the Cayman Islands from the United States on a private jet, were apprehended after a search of their luggage, during which a small quantity of marijuana was recovered.”

In a statement to CBS News, a representative for Hadid stated that the 28-year-old was traveling with marijuana that had been legally purchased in New York City with a medical license.

The representative said, “It has also been legally used medicinally in Grand Cayman since 2017. Her record there has been clear, and she is enjoying her time remaining on the island.”

The arrest took place at Owen Roberts International Airport, and both women were released on bail, according to local publication Cayman Marl Road.

Both individuals admitted guilt and were fined approximately $1,200, but no convictions were recorded, stated the border authorities.

Hadid posted several photos on Instagram the week following the arrest, showing her enjoying a beach and the ocean. She captioned one photo posted on Tuesday, “All things beautiful end.”
